For the last two decades, I lived and breathed marketing. As an internet marketing specialist, I founded my freelance agency, Optiflow, in 2013 and had the privilege of helping clients run profitable marketing campaigns. Today, I also serve as a Fractional CMO and coach, helping Leon Lategan and organisations like REAP Academy and School of Entrepreneurship.

On the surface, it was a successful career. It allowed me to travel the world, from the Americas to Asia, on a year-long vagabonding adventure.

But despite the success, I was building a magnificent sandcastle.

I was the classic "S-quadrant" professional—the expert, the system, the magic in my own business. My income was directly tied to my time and my effort. It was a fragile structure, vulnerable to the slightest change in the tide.

Then, the 2020 pandemic hit. The economic tide came in.

Within the space of a single week, my sandcastle was washed away. My active income vanished overnight. It was a brutal, humbling reality check that taught me a painful but powerful lesson: being the best technician in your own business is not security. It is the most fragile kind of freedom.

From a young age, I had been fascinated by the concept of earning income from assets—the idea of making money work for you, versus you working for money. That humbling experience forced me to stop just thinking about it and to find a legitimate way to build my financial future with stone on solid rock.

My deep due diligence led me to DuePoint. Here was a legitimate, FSP-regulated opportunity that allowed ordinary South Africans to build a real asset by tapping into our trillion-rand financial industry—without having to sell products.
